Ali’s Meanderings

Logical? Not so much….

Hair…grrrr

Okay, so how many of you know that I do cut hair?  (Raise of hands - okay a couple of you).  However, I’m not certified.  Ack - I know!!  The sin of it all.

There is a sign that just went up of Beauty School Registration and seriously it is maybe 3 minutes away from my house (driving).  They will be having day AND EVENING classes.  See this is HUGE news people (for those that care).  I can’t just quit my job and do the Beauty School thing full time for a year give or take.  I have to be bringing income in.  The income that I bring in now.

I just got up the nerve and called and the lady is EXTREMELY nice on the phone and she said that they would be doing Wed. and Fri. night classes from 5 - 9 for now.  Their maybe some Saturday’s added in.  Like she said - the quicker you get your hours in (1500 required by VA state certification) the quicker you can get certified.  Now one thing that I did notice is that the price has either REALLY jumped for Beauty School OR she is really trying to make $$ off this idea.  Now, granted it is really almost worth it to just pay it because she is offering evening classes.  Plus I also noticed that she said that we would get 2 maniquin heads (uhm, I think that you usually only get one).

Do you think that I should do the calling-around-finding-out-the-cost-of-the-other-schools?  Or do you think that ultimately it would just be worth it to pay (what I THINK) is more that the other schools in the area?  I could get very excited about this to be easy on me if you think that I’m totally out of my mind.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UPDATE:  I met the owner AND the instructor tonight.  They are both super nice.  The cost is higher than the local Beauty School that is only open during day hours.  HOWEVER, we do get 2 heads and you usually only get one.  The heads are not cheap people.  The other thing is that since they only have 1 instructor right now they are only offering the 2 nights.  They would like for you to come in Saturday (they will even be flexible with that and let you do a half day or something like that).  If/When they get another instructor, they will add in Tues. and Thurs. night class too.  They said that they wanted to make it fun and possibly go to a hair show in NY or somewhere (how freakin’ cool would that be?), also they are going to really try to make it so that you are comfortable doing whatever it is that you are learning and trying to do on a client.  In other words, if you aren’t comfortable they aren’t going to force you to do something on a client.  If you need more time in one area before you do your certification testing they will allow that and not charge you the extra hours it might take for you to get comfortable in that area.  They said out of the 7 that have come in to talk to them about the school and the 4 they have talked to on the phone, I’m the only one so far with hands on experience.  I told them about the old folks home that I help out once a month, they were fine with that and didn’t seem shocked so that felt good.  I would still be able to do the hair cuts at the home and do like half day on the Sat. that it lands on.
The only other part that is going to be really hard is trying to figure out a schedule for Regan and where she can be for 2.5 hours until Daddy gets home to put her to bed on those nights.  The other issue is - SATURDAYS.  David works every Sat unless he has a vacation day.  Granted I know that Mother-In-Law would help me out but EVERY Saturday??? Not sure….  I have 7 days to figure out how I can work that into the equation.
Any other ideas?
Punk-y-Er?!
My daughter complained tonight that she didn’t like her hair.  I asked her how she would like it, shorter or did she like it long? She replied “Shorter and Blonder.”  Of course I’m thinking to myself, ‘Shorter, really??’ so I ask, “How short would you want it?”  She reaches up with her hands to the sides of her ears (but not in her hair) and closes her fists and says “Like this.” Uhm, okay…I can take direction pretty good but uh…..does ANYONE have any idea what it is she just requested for a style?  So I try again and I use my hand and say “Do you want it at your shoulders?”, she says no but then shortly after changes her mind and says yes, at her shoulders.  Since I have been cutting hair all weekend, what is one more cut?
I get my stuff out, thinking quickly on my feet and decide on a style that I can handle that isn’t too short (I really don’t want to do the bob to her again but….I will if I have too), but still has length for the 1 day of the summer that she will actually ask to have it up.  I basically have the front right above her shoulder with the back “V” so that she still has SOME of the length.  Don’t get me wrong I still cut about an 1.5″ off (cringe - honestly, I didn’t realize it was quite as long as it was) and about 2.5 -3″ towards the front (because it was still ‘bobbed’ from last summers cut).  ANY-WAY, way longer story that needed.  I asked her before bedtime if she liked it and she said she wanted it like Ryan’s (she makes our coffee on Sunday morning’s).  I said “Really?”
Ryan-a-like:
Very Picture 12; shaved up the back; lots of colors sometimes too
I’m not saying I don’t like Ryan’s hair, I love it and I especially love it on her, however could you imagine seeing a 3 yo having that hairstyle? Uhm, sorry, I would probably freak.
I will post before/after shots of Regan’s hair tomorrow. I still need a shot of the “new” do.
Hair/Mop/’Cousin It’
I have thick, curly (when shorter layers it is more noticeable) to wavy (when longer the weight pulls it out), graying brown  LOTS of hair.  My bangs are growing out too.
I have a hair appt this Saturday.  Color (thank goodness, seriously, I got out of the shower one day this week and thought “I’m graying overnight now”), eyebrows (just think fuzzy catepillars) and hair cut.  Yes, CUT not just trimmed this time.  I like the fact that I have thick hair (on most days), I like the fact that I can wear it curly or straight (if I take the time to straighten it).  I have been growing it out for a while, I like playing with hair so I’m fine with it being longer.  I look good in short hair but I can’t have it too short anymore b/c my neck is too long and skinny (think giraffe).  But short hair means that I don’t get to play with it much, it means getting it wet every morning because of bed head.
So I’m looking for something blunt and choppy now.  Any suggestions?
I have looked at a few sites and I just feel like I know what I want but it still won’t end up looking the way I want it too.
Here is what I have so far:  Granted I know this is a famous person, but I was looking at hairstyles and I was thinking of people that I knew (of) that had the kind of cut I’m looking for.
another great look
love the length and smoothness
another choppy look
UPDATE:
Okay, so I was gonna post this last week (before I said screw it) and I got a phone call that I wasn’t getting my hair cut or colored.  So I colored it myself and it still isn’t cut yet.  And I plucked the damn caterpillars.
Any suggestions, ideas, other haircuts that you think would work?  (I guess I should add that I have an oval face - I think)
Bath conversations
Last night was Regan’s bath.  Daddy now has Sunday’s off so he was around and about.  He came in towards the end of the bath and this is what ensued…..
Daddy:  Wow, look at all the hair.  I think that we should cut it about here (marking just under her chin).   ……   Then you could give the cut hair to Daddy.
Mommy:  Yeah, daddy with Blonde hair!
Regan:  …….  Then you would be Hannah!
Mommy:  (ROFL!!!!!)
I must have been tired for it to make me laugh so hard.  Then again the lights were out at 9:50 - which is early for me lately.  Still freakin over-slept this morning!
